Nothing invites an exciting retail adventure more than a gorgeous, filled-to-the-brim vintage lifestyle store. One look at Viand Mercantile’s brick-and-mortar in the heart of Portland, Maine, and you’ll know what we mean. 😉
But let’s go back a few years when Viand first materialized out of Jenny Bravo’s photography studio. As a commercial food photographer and stylist, Jenny loved to incorporate unique props into her work. From this, she created a brand that resonated with her love for anything inspired, vintage, and whimsical, and her wish to share that with her community. Enter Viand Mercantile.
Viand Mercantile has almost everything. From homewares and furniture to bar and grocery items, everything is one-of-a-kind and gives homes authenticity, warmth, and personality. For gifts (as it is inevitable for a shop like theirs), they make sure that every package reflects the Viand hospitality, so they use branded and sustainable packaging from noissue.

Tell us a bit about your brand!
Viand Mercantile is a gifts and home décor store with an eye for funky and unique items, located in the heart of Portland, Maine. We sell a mix of vintage and bespoke maker goods.
Tell us about the design for your packaging and how you’re using them?
Our packaging is everything to us. We always say that details matter and it really is true. The amount of times that customers have asked us to roll up a few extra pieces of tissue so that they can take it home for a separate use is too many times to count! And we happily oblige!
Additionally we ship ecomm from our small brick and mortar store and we love the little extra spark that all of our little marketing details add to the online customer experience.
What made noissue a good fit for your packaging?
We used a small local agency to help us with our rebrand when we expanded into our permanent location, and we trust them implicitly. They recommended you and we’ve found that your customer service, product quality, and product offerings are fantastic. They were right and we are so happy to continue to build a relationship with noissue!
Where are you finding inspiration for Viand Mercantile and in life at the moment?
One thing we do quarterly is collaborate with a local installation artist to install dried brush and flowers all around the store, but specifically a big statement piece in our big archway threshold that connects the two sides of our store.
Our last install was for a green holiday inspired by the sea. We harvested local Maine kelp and draped seaweed ribbons all around the store. Customers came in for months just to see the seaweed! We then brought in products inspired by Maine’s coast and seaweed.
Next up is an installation inspired by Maine’s 100 Mile Wilderness, and we’ve already started bringing in pieces like kids kaleidoscope binoculars and our staple birdcalls. We love to connect the store to our beautiful state and it’s a way to make our Maine gifts special without being kitschy.
